A "Loan" For The Lord!

"He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again."
Proverbs 19:17

Has the Lord ever asked you for a "loan"? This statement may shock you, but if it does, it is probably because you have failed to recognize in the needs of others a direct request to you from Heaven for some of your earthly goods. We are to "do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith!" (Gal. 6:10) James warns against the sin of passing by the needy with pious words while keeping a tight grip on our purse-strings. "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say them, depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone" (James 2:14-17).

A father once gave his little boy a half dollar and told him he might do with it as he pleased. Later when he asked about it, the little fellow told him that he had lent it. "Did you get good security?" he asked. "Yes, sir!" said the boy. "I gave it to a poor beggar who looked hungry!" "Oh, how foolish you are. You will never get it back! Said the father. "But, father, I have the best security; for the Bible says: he that giveth to the poor lendeth to the Lord!" The father was so pleased that he gave the boy another half dollar! "There, father," said the son, "you see, I told you I would get it again, only I did not think it would come so soon!"

Depend upon it, the bread cast upon the waters will be found again, though it may be "after many days" (Eccl. 11:1).
