Suggested Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:12-17

No Harm In The Pot

"But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot."
II Kings 4:41

The sons of the prophets were greatly dismayed when they found that a kettle of soup they had prepared at great labor was unpalatable and unfit to eat. One of the students who could not discern between "edible gourds" and "poisoned cucumbers" had added a lapful of noxious gourds to the pot of soup, and everyone became sick. Had this student been able to discern between the good and the bad this would not have occurred. We too need to have the gift of discernment between good and bad if we are to have our testimony remain potent and be able to show others the way of salvation.

One little inconsistency, one little habit can spoil it all with its "death in the pot." But there is a remedy. Elisha the prophet took "meal" and threw it in the pot. Meal in the Scripture speaks of two things: (1) the perfect humanity of Christ (Lev. 2:1), and (2) the truth of the gospel (Matt. 13:33). We can overcome the deadly habits in our lives as we emulate Jesus (I Peter 2:21), and order our lives in obedience to His Word. Read carefully Ephesians 5:1-7, and then look to Him before you begin the day and claim the victory over that pet sin which you know is the "death in the pot." Surrender it and trust Him for victory and there will be "no harm in the pot."

"He that saith he abideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked" (I John 2:6).
