Suggested Scripture Reading: I Peter 1:1-5

Falling From Grace!

"Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,"
Jude 1:24

To the evil suggestion of Satan that it will be impossible to hold out on "The Jesus Way," the Word of God comes with its assurances to the weak and fearful saint. While in ourselves we may not have sufficient strength to withstand temptation, yet we need not despair. There is One who is able to keep us from falling! The same grace that empowered us to become the sons of God (John 1:12) is also available to keep us in fellowship!

In regard to our STANDING (Salvation), we can "never perish" (John 10:28); and as to our WALK (Sanctification), if we "draw nigh to God" (James 4:8), He will draw nigh to us and bestow upon us the miracle of His keeping power for the life of victory! To keep us "not stumbling" (as the original can be translated) is God's purpose for us in this life, and some day soon to present us "faultless before the presence of his glory" (Jude 1:24) is His design for our future! The result of this keeping grace will be "peace" here (Phil. 4:7; Rom. 14:17), and "exceeding joy" by and by!

A little girl was once looking at the famous picture which shows a rock in the midst of a stormy sea, bearing on its summit a cross. A woman, just recovered from the angry waves, clings faint and exhausted to this refuge. At her feet a hand, grasping part of the wreckage of a ship, is disappearing into the dark waters. "What does it mean?" asked the child. "It's called 'Rock of Ages,' and means that we must cling to Jesus!" said her mother. The little one thought a moment and then replied, "Oh, but that rock can't be my Jesus; for when I cling to Him, He reaches down and clings too!"

Let us be clear on this matter. In Salvation God does all the holding on so that nothing shall separate us from His love! (Rom. 8:35-39) In Sanctification we first hold on to Him (Jude 1:21), and then He in turn holds on to us! (Mal. 3:7)
